Our story

Why we started

Mo’s story

Capable Again was founded by Mo, who brings 15 years of lived experience of health and disability at work, and 5 years of supporting others.

In his twenties, in the 2000s, Mo developed TMJ syndrome brought on by stress. He needed extended time off work to rest. When he went back, he didn’t know about reasonable adjustments, and none were offered — even though they would have helped. He left the job soon after. Reasonable adjustments were a legal requirement for only large firms at the time.

It shaped his path into adult life. He went into higher education and, at his peak, was achieving marks in the 80s on his modules — until stress took its toll again and his mental health became seriously unwell.

Today Mo is formally diagnosed and gets the help he needs, including medication and ongoing support.

He went on to set up his own business — and with it, the chance to do things differently. He put in place the reasonable adjustments and support he needed to do his best work, and did the same for the people he employed. So he understands both sides: what it’s like to need adjustments, and what it takes for a business to make them work.

For the last five years he has helped people with mental health conditions and disabilities to earn an income and navigate work.
